Winter Lecture Series, 2026-27 season
Each lecture is held at Altrincham Methodist Church Hall,
Barrington Road, Altrincham, Cheshire, WA14 1HF. Car park off
Springfield Road or short walk from Altrincham Bus/Rail/Metrolink
Interchange. Please use the main entrance on Woodlands Road side.
Friday 9th October Lee Stanford "The Norman Harrop Collection Part
1. A selection of photographs from the Manchester Locomotive Society
archive of 1960s steam in the North West of England taken by Norman
Harrop".
Friday 13th November Tom Ingall "The Reunification of the Great
Central Railway". The talk describes the plan to reunify the Great
Central Railway (North) and the Great Central Railway
preserved lines by building a new link in the centre of
Loughborough. Tom is a BBC presenter who has been a volunteer at the
Great Central Railway since the age of 14.
(We will be doing an assessment of the numbers attending the October
and November lectures after the November lecture. We will go ahead
with the January, February and March lectures if the numbers
attending have been satisfactory.)
Friday 8th January Jeremy Nicholls "100 Years of Trains to Audlem"
and "Nantwich and the Railway".
Friday 12th February Chris Davies "The AERPS and the Last Years of
the 1500 volts dc Altrincham Electrics". Chris is a Vice-President
of the Society and he has been involved since the early days in the
early 1970s.
Friday 12th March Paul Shackcloth "People and Places 9". More images
of the pre-1968 steam railway with at least one person visible.
All of the lectures start at 7.30pm and parking at the church is
free.
Admission costs £5.00.
